Bernat Klein CBE, the visionary fashion textile designer who made Scotland his adoptive home in 1945 , has dismissed the paintings of Jack Vettriano. “They’re nothing more than soft porn, which I don’t care for at all,” he claimed.Klein’s work has been described as “A wonderfully lyrical evocation of the Scottish landscape in tactile yarns, in woven fabrics of fascinating textures and with an extraordinary richness of colour, and in eye-popping abstract prints.”

Jack Vettriano and writer Ian Rankin appear on a CD as backing singers for a the band St Jude’s Infirmary.They sang in the choir for a track on St Jude’s Infirmary’s new album.Rebus creator Rankin, 47, also did the spoken word section of the song, At The Foot Of The Walk. 56-year-old Vettriano – whose most famous work is The Singing Butler – does a reading on another track.

Grant said: “It was a dream to record with them both and it seemed almost too easy that the collaboration fell into place.”

Vettriano recorded a spoken word piece on another track, American Sonar.

Jack Vettriano paintings sold at auction – Boy Boating

Two early paintings by the artist Jack Vettriano have gone under the hammer in Edinburgh for almost £10,000. The paintings, which were sold to a private collection in Scotland, were completed by the artist in the 1980s. Vettriano recently brushed aside claims he had copied some of his most famous paintings from an art manual. The works sold on Saturday – Three Girls Bathing in the Sea and Boy Boating – were completed by the artist nearly 20 years ago when he preferred to be known by his father’s name, Hoggan.

Early Vettriano paintings for sale

Two paintings by Jack Vettriano go up for sale at auction today.One of the paintings, called Gathering Shells, is a rare example of the Fife artist’s watercolour skills and could attract interest from the keenest collectors of his work. Initial estimates say it will sell for between £2000-£3000, but it could go for much more if a bidding war broke out among collectors.
