Selling art online for new artists

New artists can find it difficult to start selling their art for many reasons . There are 2 options which I would recommend for anyone trying to sell their art .

First of all artists should contact local and online galleries to showcase their work . Each gallery can offer something different so it is important to speak to a wide range of businesses.

Secondly, in the digital age every artist should have his or her own website . An online presence is vital in order to establish your name . A website gives an artist credibility and the ability to sell their own work without any commission. There are many different approaches to setting up an ecommerce site. Photogold set this site up in 1998 and we have been selling art online ever since . Our new project Photogold Ecommerce offers artists the option of having their own website with an integrated shopping cart . We can give advice on the best way of promoting your new website . Bathers by Jack Vettriano
Bathers by Jack Vettriano

Sotheby’s Scottish Art auction takes place in London on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 and it will bring to the market more than 150 works from many of the leading names in the field of predominantly 20th Century Scottish Art. The Scottish Colourists will feature strongly, as will Anne Redpath, Joan Eardley, Peter Howson and Jack Vettriano and the sale is estimated to bring in the region of £4 million. All of the sale’s offerings will be exhibited at Edinburgh’s Mansfield Traquair between Tuesday, September 15 and Thursday, September 17 and this exhibition is open to the public. Jack Vettriano will be represented by some 15 works, the most valuable of which is Bathers, which was exhibited at The Solstice Gallery in Edinburgh in August 1991 in the very same exhibition as two of the artist’s most iconic images, The Singing Butler and Mad Dogs. Bathers dates to the most significant period of Vettriano’s career and is expected to fetch £100,000-150,000. Pincer Movement , which has been published as a limited edition print , is also for sale. Photogold has supplied Jack Vettriano prints online since 1998. Guardian art reviews

Photogold featured artist – Suzan Wolters

Magic Moment
Suzan Wolters .Suzan is a full time artist and has been for the past 25 years.
Suzan:”My love for working in clay is one of my most vivid childhood memories, I have been growing up with paint and clay, it was almost inevitable that I was being drawn to dedicate my live sculpting and painting. From my early twenties up to now I have been sculpting and painting, at first reproductions of antique dolls in porcelain, after that I sculpted infants in polymer clay and later my well known and recognizable happy plus-size woman in their full form.
I have always been enchanted with sculpts and paintings of big woman, in particulair happy ones, they are often so much more buoyant and graceful than thinner woman”.

Suzan received for her sculptings several prestigious prices at International art shows in New York. Her sculptings are collectible items in Japan, the USA, Australia, Russia and Europe.

“A few years ago my mother moved to a new house and asked me to paint her a big happy woman, I thought that would be a fun thing to do and a passion emerged….I was hooked!
Every time I am working on a painting I get ‘bewitched’ in putting together a voluptuous confident and happy female,it is a very fulfilling and gratifying experience.
I work mainly from live models, beautiful plus size woman with a positive image of themselves.

A ‘feel good’ mood and a smile is what Suzan is hoping for when people view her work.

Suzan Wolters admits to being a big fan of Beryl Cook

Falkirk Mod 2008

Posted on

The National Mod 2008 has started this week in Falkirk . The Mod is a Gaelic festival of traditional music with a prestigious gold medal for the best in each category . To some ‘The Mod is coming home’ might seem a curious slogan to use as the Mod has never been held in Falkirk before however the slogan arises from the annual Trysts that were held in Falkirk over the centuries where drovers and cattle dealers from all over the Highlands and Islands would converge on the town to buy and sell their livestock. The Mod is Coming Home because the whole concept of the Highland Gathering had originated in Falkirk. The local organising commmittee for the Falkirk Mod 2008 has officially launched the Mod Fringe – a series of musical and cultural events (many of which are free) that will appeal to the local community and the estimated 10,000 visitors expected to attend the event between 10th and 18th October this year. Some of the musical highlights include: Live music from bands such as Skerryvore; The Red Hot Chilli Pipers; Skipinnish and many others across a number of venues in the town, A Fiddlers Rally at Falkirk Town Hall, Ceilidhs featuring established and local musicians, Pipebands and live musical performances in the town centre. Photogold has teamed up with Scottish screensavers to produce a special edition screensaver for the Falkirk Mod 2008 . Visit Scottish Screensavers for the Falkirk Mod screensaver
