Open Championship will return to St Andrews in 2005, it has been announced.

It will be the 27th time the Open has been played on the Old Course, which is located on the east coast of Scotland just north of Edinburgh.

The first time it was played there was in 1873.

St Andrews - known as "the home of golf" - was the venue for Tiger Woods' Open victory in 2000.

The world's number one golfer triumphed by eight strokes that year, before going on to win the US Open and PGA titles in the same year and then the Masters in 2001.
