Council vandalises Banksy's latest masterpiece

A new stencil by Banksy, possibly worth over £100,000 , has been painted over by the local council . Last year, Islington Council had a policy of protecting Banksy’s work . It compiled a list of works by Banksy in their area to prevent them being painted over by clean-up teams. But the council now seems to have had a change of heart and said: graffiti and we treat it that way, whether it’s Banksy or not. Residents in the houses opposite complained and we covered it up. Banksy’s work has been bought by Hollywood film stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. At an auction in New York earlier this year, a piece sold for £950,000. The 4ft by 4ft stencil, set on a lime green background, depicted two young girls sitting at a desk with a Kalashnikov rifle, playing with bullets rather than pencils. The elusive Banksy, with his face hidden, was spotted painting the scene towards the end of last month. But the mural was painted over with masonry paint, after residents complained.

Best selling artist Jack Vettriano of Lunchtime Lovers fame at Photogold

Kelpies canvas prints for sale – original images of the Kelpies.

Jack Vettriano was born in St Andrews , Fife, Scotland in 1951 and grew up in the mining town of Methil . He was raised in poverty – he lived with his mother, father and older brother in a spartan miner’s house, sharing a bed with his brother and wearing hand-me-down clothes. From the age of 10, his father sent him out doing any job that would earn money. His father took half his earnings. After leaving school at 15, he followed his father down the mine, working as an apprentice engineer. Vettriano took up painting as a hobby in the 1970s when a girlfriend bought him a set of watercolours for his birthday and from then on, he spent much of his spare time teaching himself to paint.

In 1984, Vettriano first submitted his work to an art exhibition in the museum . Jack Nicholson, Sir Alex Ferguson , Sir Terence Conran and Sir Tim Rice are amongst his fans .
